The Twilight Sad

The Twilight Sad Discography

Doing some random image searching and came across this band whom I’ve never heard of before.  I fell in love with their very distinct art vibe, and what’s really cool is that this “vibe” is persistent with all the albums.  I couldn’t find who the designer was so unfortunately I can’t give him or her credit on this post, if you happen to know who it is please drop some science in the comments below.   More covers in the click through.

Dead Throne

Dead Throne, The Devil Wears Prada 2011

Artwork by Dan Seagrave

I’m not for sure if Dan Seagrave also designed the packaging for the cd or not, and I currently have my copy packed away so I can’t double check to see if it lists the designer in the notes or not.  (If you know please fill me in)

The Process of Belief

Process of Belief Booklet + CD

The Process of Belief, Bad Religion 2002

Designed by Mackie Osborne

This is actually a designer I just discovered myself.  I have always admired the effort put into the Process of Belief booklet, and loved the design from the moment I bought it even before I knew anything about design.  A couple of days ago I was going through my old cd’s and picked this one out, remembering how much I enjoyed the design of the book.  That’s when to my surprise it was a designer I never was aware of that had already designed a couple different albums I already owned.

Nevermind

Nevermind, Nirvana 1991

Designed by Robert Fisher

May as well kick this off with one of the most iconic album covers of all time.  This album cover uses the standard Onyx typeface for Nirvana, and what I’m guessing is Helvetica, although it’s hard to judge since it has an underwater looking treatment applied to it.  One thing I really appreciate about this design is that it allows the powerful photography to be the center of attention.  The simple use of alignment on the type and box are simple, and elegantly executed.

This cover also has an amusing backstory to it, check it out on Wikipedia.
